Benefits of employment in people with mental illness: Differential mediating effects of internalized stigma on self‐esteem

Previous research shows a negative relationship between the stigmatization of people with mental illness and self-esteem. Through path analysis, present study examines extent to which both perceived individual discrimination group predict self-esteem internalized stigma concealment mediate these relationships. We also test whether this mediation is moderated by amount time worked. The participants were 110 Spanish (67 men 43 women) recruited from nongovernmental organizations. sample was divided into two groups according they had permanent employment contract (which occurs when person has worked for over 5 months). results confirmed mediating role in contracts. Group an indirect positive association through reduced whole sample. In sum, our show that being employed longer may strengthen via buffer illness.
